But do you get back up again?
Today I got some shitty news. Not devastating news but the kind of news that makes you feel like the world is out to get you and that life really isn’t fair. In my life I’ve had several major set-backs and each time I’ve come to the dead end I’ve turned around and found another way. Sometimes though, when you come to ten dead ends in a day, turning round takes a hell of a lot more effort than it used to.
Failure is normal and it’s a part of life. Every time we fail we grow and learn new things. Also, a lot of the time a failure isn’t an ending but a beginning and if you’d never failed at, say, taking a wrong turn when driving, you may never have discovered a beautiful garden or a discount shop selling the exact rug you’d been eyeing up or seen an old friend walking on that exact street at that exact moment. These are all from personal experience; I don’t think everything happens for a reason but I do think things have a way of working out.
It’s hard to stay positive when it feels like everything is going wrong. But it’s important to remember that there is a light at the end of the tunnel and things will always get better. If you give up, nothing good can come. If you keep going, even if you’re going slowly, at least you’re making progress.
Revel in the rubbish feeling – cry, eat ice cream, sulk… but draw a line when you’re ready and put a smile on your face ready to try try and try again.
So, in summary, you get knocked down and you do get back up again… but it’s okay to stay on the ground for a little while first.
