100 Things

You only get one life.

As much as I despised the ‘YOLO’ trend, I have to admit that the message behind this acronym is a really important one. Who knows what happens when we die (there’s a whole other post to be written about that) but, as far as we do know, you only live once and life is for living. At the risk of sounding sickeningly cliché, I don’t want to have regrets and there’s a lot that I want to achieve in my lifetime.

Every day, every week, every month of your life, anxiety will try and hold you back. Anxiety often doesn’t let you be happy or do things that would make you happy. It is very hard for me to take risks with this mental illness; however, I am going to push myself to take them, because from past experience, some of my best memories are a result of what seemed like a big risk which I did anyway and I’m truly glad that I did.

So, without further ado, here is my list of 100 things to do before I die. Some of them seem simple, some of them may seem impossible, but having a list of aims, dreams and goals to hit really inspires me and forces me to fight anxiety in order to achieve things… plus the satisfaction of crossing something off a list never gets old.

I would highly recommend making your own list and challenging yourself to achieve what may seem impossible; it doesn’t matter if your impossible is climbing a mountain or going on a bus, the achievement is equally empowering and adds to the metaphorical scrapbook of your life. YOLO.

  8. Ask someone I’ve just met out on a date

  12. Be spontaneous for an entire day
  13. Fly in a plane first class
  14. Write a book
  15. Move in with my best friend
  16. Learn to play piano
  17. Run a marathon
  18. Ride in a hot air balloon
  19. Go on a five star getaway
  20. Get drunk on cocktails
  21. Visit a prison
  22. Believe in myself
  23. Think only positive thoughts
  24. Swim with sharks
  25. Meet those who have inspired me the most
  26. Eat out for all three meals in a day

  81. Play imaginary games and hide and seek as an adult

  86. Look into the eyes of my child and see myself – be proud of this
  87. Be 100% honest for a whole week
  88. Enjoy a night out clubbing
  89. Sell something that I’ve made
  90. Accept any regrets and move on
  91. Host a dinner party
  92. Feel like the luckiest person on Earth
  93. Befriend a complete stranger
  94. Achieve more qualifications
  95. Learn self defence
  96. Go on a spa break
  97. Watch the sunrise and that same sunset
  98. Feel stronger than my anxiety
  99. Anonymously donate to a charity
  100. Be genuinely, wholeheartedly, totally, completely HAPPY


Some of these seem impossible, some seem easy and some seem ridiculous. The point is you only get one life, so make it count and combat those demons that try and hold you back.
